Index by Word?

Imagine that your website is concerned with the care and feeding of cats and that you have decided to add a search capability on message titles. You must index the subject of messages before you can run searches. Take the case of a story called "Getting rid of fleas", what do you expect your users to type in to locate this story? It might be the exact case sensitive literal phase 'Getting rid of fleas' or perhaps you are more forgiving and would key on the word fleas.

When the latter type of search makes more sense, you need to set Index by Word on the messages variable subject. If you are indexing some other string valued variable and its value is a one of a limited number of strings, then you may want to offer a menu in a search. In this case Index by word isn't appropriate.
